Controls Engineer

YOUR KEY CONTRIBUTIONS

Our Controls Engineer is an innovative problem solver, whose creative and analytical mind can push the boundaries of what currently exists to pursue the best possible solution to a project’s requirements. Beyond delivering an electrical design and machine control program, you will get to feel, test, and iterate your solutions, and appreciate just how essential they are to a machine’s operation, your team’s goals, and the company’s future.:

Your immediate contributions will be to:

  • Contribute to the product development of entirely new machine offerings with new technology or innovative solutions, and to the continued development and standardization of our existing offerings.

  • Provide the development, testing, and implementation of PLC and HMI control systems for existing and new packaging equipment.

  • Develop and modify schematics and panel layouts, conforming to Omega Design drawing templates and design standards.

  • Specify control system hardware and devices needed for each application.

  • Assist in the start-up and testing as the machine assembly is being completed, and continue to support testing through Factory Acceptance Test.

  • Provide remote support to the Field Service Department during system installation, Site Acceptance Test, upgrades, or troubleshooting.

  • Regularly assess the schedules and requirements of assigned projects to independently adjust your priorities or shift between projects, striving to maintain milestone schedules across projects.

  • For some applications, collaborate machine development with our partners or vendors, such as for delta robot or collaborative robot integration or for machine vision integration.

  • For some applications, collaborate machine development with customers, such as for machine level networking and plant level communications.

  • Experience with delta and collaborative robots.

  • Experience with programming such as Python, Java, or C#.

  • Experience with validation procedures and change-control practices relating to control system development and modification.

  • Experience with ERP systems for creating part numbers and releasing material demands.

YOUR WORKPLACE

Though you may find opportunities to attend tradeshows and external training, this job will not require regular travel. Early on, you will work onsite at our headquarters in Exton, Pa so you can become familiar with your team and Production. This position allows the opportunity to transition to a 4-day work week or a hybrid Work-From-Home/Work-From-Office schedule as part of our flexible work environment.

While performing your duties, you will need to go back and forth between your own workspace and Omega’s Production floor where your ideas are assembled, tested, and validated. Omega’s culture takes safety very seriously. We regularly provide safety training, while assessing and mitigating potential risks of moving objects, lasers, robotics, electrical panels, and other considerations.

YOUR TEAM

Our Engineering department occupies a quiet section of the building with easy access to Production and Omega’s 3D printing lab. The team is comprised of engineers with varying backgrounds and specialties including mechanical, electrical, controls automation, and robotics. You will report directly to the Lead Electrical Engineer, though you can expect to interact frequently with employees at all levels and departments of the company. Additionally, you will build bonds with various vendors and distributors to specify commercial components or fabrication details with minimal assistance.

YOUR IDEAS

We believe in participative leadership and innovation. That means you have the freedom to make a difference and contribute to the larger goal, regardless of your position. Great ideas can strike at any moment, and when you have one, you’re empowered to speak up!
